Buck Island Reef National Monument,
St. Croix, USVI


A permit is required for overnight anchorage in a dedicated area of West Beach at Buck Island National Monument. Stop by the Visitor Contact Station at Fort Christiansvern, Christiansted, for an application or download from You must present your boat registration and a valid picture ID with your permit.  Overnight guests may stay for no more than 14 consecutive nights at a time. Permits are valid for one year.

Moorings are available at the dedicated scuba area and the underwater trail on the eastern shore.

Boats under 20 feet may anchor bow and stern near the shore line in the wet sand below the high tide line.

Boats under 16 feet may haul out on the beach area outside in the posted bird nesting area.

The south side pier is for drop-off and pick-up only.

Fishing gear must be stowed at all times and cannot be used within park boundaries.

No wakes are permitted near the anchorage or lagoons.

No passport is required for U.S. citizens traveling to the U.S.V.I., if another proof of citizenship, such as driver’s license or birth certificate with picture ID, is available. Non-U.S. visitors need a valid passport and appropriate visa. No immunizations are necessary.
