Maintenance and repair are unavoidable aspects of boating life. The U.S. Virgin Islands and surrounding areas boast a large boating community, and with it, a full range of maintenance and supply services. Chandleries, boatyards, dry docks and land storage, machine shops, towing, fuel, hydraulic repair, provisions and more can be found at or near most marinas, and marine supply outfitters often have parts in stock. If you do need to order a part, you may consider ordering online, however, you’re best bet is to let your boatyard or marine supply store do it for you. They can often find it faster and cheaper through their established contacts.

Keep in mind that if you order parts, you’ll need to pay close attention to shipping costs. Express Mail is the most affordable option from U.S. companies, though overnight shipping may not get there the next day, especially if ordering flammable or combustible products that must be shipped rather than flown in. Other shipping companies often charge much higher international rates, so be sure to ask first!
